Extra Curriculum Activities

A. Student Participation in the Erasmus Program of the European Union.
Since the academic year of 1994-95, the department has been participating in the Socrates – Erasmus program where exchanges of students are made for one or two semesters with the following universities: University of Phillips – Marburg in Germany, University of Nice and University of Pau in France, University Libre in Brussels, University of Liige and Ghent University in Belgium, University of Camerino in Italy, Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona in Spain, Uniwersytet Lodzki in Poland and University of Miskolc in Hungary.

B. Participation of students in the United Nations Models.
The U.N. Models (Simulation Models of U.N. units) form an interesting and valuable institution for the students of political science, although not exclusively, which was established many years ago under the auspices of the United Nations itself. It takes place in different cities all over the world, like New York and Chicago in the U.S., Toronto and Montreal in Canada, Hague in Holland, Munich and Bonn in Germany, Cairo in Egypt, Mexico City, Seoul in Korea, Vienna in Austria, Sofia in Bulgaria, Istanbul in Turkey and elsewhere.
Students from different Universities meet representing a country of their choice, usually different from the one they come from, and using information they have already collected and their knowledge of the way the UN operate, they try to represent their chosen country aiming at submitting their Resolution, which, if accepted by all the representatives, will be adopted as a resolution of the  UN organization they participate in. In order to express the views of the country in the International Organization, they contact the local Embassies, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs- if necessary- so that the views they support on a specific subject coincide with those of the country they represent. In some UN Models, like the one in New York, students are also informed by the permanent representatives of the countries in the United Nations.

C. Participation of students in educational excursions
Each year students participate in educational trips to countries of the European Union, the Balkans and Cyprus aiming at the most thorough comprehension of the International Environment.

D. Internships
Students in their final year in the Department of International and European Economic and Political Studies, irrespective of the direction they have chosen may work interns in Ministries, International Organizations, International Organizations Delegations, Non-Profit-Making Organizations and other bodies during the summer holidays or after they have completed attending their obligatory courses. This can be done on condition that a Curriculum Vitae is provided and that students decide to do their internship in the city of Thessaloniki, Athens or elsewhere in Greece. Internship are not paid and after completion students are provided with a certificate by the respective body in charge.

E. Participation of students in the Summer School on Contemporary European Politics
The Department organised the Thessaloniki Summer School on Contemporary European Politics in 2007. The Summer School aimed at providing a forum for advanced undergraduate and research students with a common research interest in the field of Contemporary European Politics, such as European governance, public policy formation, democratic legitimacy, to discuss empirical developments and other academic matters with students and specialist staff drawn from a range of Greek universities. Participants attended a ten-day intensive course that consisted of lectures and student paper presentations on special topics.
