Title: Just Add Data Bio: Building Automated Machine Learning for Predictive Modelling and Knowledge Discovery

Abstract: Machine Learning is now forming into the next-generation technology: Automated Machine Learning of AutoML. AutoML platforms promise to democratize ML to non-experts, dramatically boost the productivity of non-experts and experts alike, reduce methodological errors, and even improve the quality of analyses. In the talk, we'll describe our commercial AutoML platform Just Add Data Bio, or JADBio for short, that is specifically designed for knowledge discovery with high-dimensional data. The challenges addressed and solutions engineered will be explained, along with demo applications. We'll also discuss the entrepreneurship aspects of turning an AI technology into a commercial product.

Short Bio: Ioannis Tsamardinos, Ph.D., is a Professor at the Computer Science Department of the University of Crete, CEO and co-founder of JADBio (Gnosis Data Analysis PC), a University startup. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Intelligent Systems Program at the University of Pittsburgh in 2001. He then worked as Assistant Professor at the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Vanderbilt University until 2006 when he returned to Greece. Prof. Tsamardinos’ main research directions include machine learning, bioinformatics, and artificial intelligence. Prof. Tsamardinos has over 120 publications in international journals, conferences, and books. Distinctions with colleagues and students include a Gold Medal in the Student Paper Competition in MEDINFO 2004, the Outstanding Student Paper Award in AIPS 2000, the NASA Group Achievement Award for participation in the Remote Agent team and others. Statistics on recognition of work include more than 8500 citations (1000+ a year), and h-index of 37 (as estimated by Google Scholar).
