Service No.4: Production of accessible textbooks

Admittedly, in our country the most important problem currently facing students with visual impairments (blind or visually impaired) is access to educational material. This fact causes significant delays in their studies and does not allow them to participate equally in the educational process. Students with visual impairments rightfully demand that educational material (books, textbooks, notes, etc.) in digital form be at their disposal. Yet, absence of such systematic provision inflicts accessibility inefficiencies on students and induces subsequent delays.

The Accessibility Unit will contribute to the production of accessible texts in various digital formats (depending on the type of visual disability).Texts that will be converted into accessible formats will be distributed in different formats (plain TXT, RTF accessible text, DAISY format, artificial  voice MP3 audio) to eligible students with disabilities, depending on their disability and preferences. Accessible texts will be gradually integrated into the Accessible Textbooks System developed at the University of Macedonia under the Digital Convergence program, and through this they will become available to students with disabilities.70 programs have been already incorporated into this application.
