Committee for Equal Access of Persons with Disabilities and Persons with Special Educational Needs
1. By decision of the Governing Board, the Committee for Equal Access for Persons with Disabilities and Persons with Special Educational Needs is established within the University. The Committee consists of five (5) members. It includes five members of the Teaching and Research Staff who, as much as possible, come from different faculties of the University and are preferably individuals with disabilities or have relevant expertise or experience in issues related to equal access for persons with disabilities and special educational needs. Additionally, the Committee includes the head of the Equal Access Unit, the head of the University's Technical Service, one student representative—preferably a student with a disability—and the head of the Teaching and Learning Support Centre, as outlined in Article 129.
2. The Committee serves as an advisory body to the University, with its mission being to provide recommendations to the relevant authorities for the development and implementation of policies ensuring equal access for persons with disabilities and those with special educational needs. The specific responsibilities of the Committee are as follows:
a) To prepare and submit for approval to the Rector a plan for ensuring equal access for individuals with disabilities and those with special educational needs at the University. This plan should include the proposed technical and non-technical measures for equal access, a timeline for their implementation, and recommendations for improvement.
b) To provide recommendations to the Rector regarding the initiation of public contracts for the procurement of goods or services necessary for implementing the plan outlined in point a).
c) To design and implement programs, actions, seminars, informational events, and other related activities and initiatives, in collaboration with public sector bodies as described in point a) of par. 1 of article 14, L. 4270/2014 (A' 143) or social institutions, with the aim of raising the awareness of the teaching and administrative staff, as well as the students, in relation to the equal access of persons with disabilities and persons with special educational needs to higher education.
d) To conduct studies and establish subcommittees or working groups, such as volunteer groups, to support the Committee’s work.
e) To draft an internal regulation plan to ensure equal access for individuals with disabilities and those with special educational needs, and submit it to the Senate for approval.
f) To undertake any other responsibilities defined by the internal regulations of the University that fall within the Committee’s scope.
