at the JA Start Up 2018 competition

The Event-or team from the Department of Applied Informatics of the University of Macedonia won the 2nd place in the student competition “JA Start-Up 2018 Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship” organized by Junior Achievement Greece. The finals of the competition were held on Friday, 25th May 2018 in Athens at the Cultural Center "Hellenic Cosmos" of the Foundation of the Hellenic World.

After a selection of the business ideas submitted, the 11 most original start-up business ideas competed in the finals. Those ideas originated from groups of students from the Athens University of Economics and Business, the University of Macedonia, the National Technical University of Athens, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, as well as the Junior Achievement Greece Alumni Association.

Charchantis Giannis, Bonti Chrysanthi, Panagiotidou Despoina and Tsakoumi Evangelia are the members of the team, all 4th-year students of the Technology Management Specialization of the Department of Applied Informatics of the University of Macedonia. The idea, which relates to corporate event management and recruiting tool, was developed within the Entrepreneurship and Startups course taught by Assistant Professor of Digital Entrepreneurship and Technological Innovation, Mr. Konstantinos Fouskas.  This is the second distinction of the students after their previous participation 2 years ago.

The following groups of the University of Macedonia also competed and attracted the attention due to their original ideas:

  • Ride Along: Konstantinos Tahas, Zoi Kesidou, Aris Kottias, and Vassilis Athanasiadis created an independent portal that connects travelers moving in the same direction and brings together people planning to make the same journey while sharing expenses.
  • Work Out: Karavasili Sofia, Mavridaki Franceska, Barouni Katerina, and Anagnostopoulou Christina created an app for organizing and holding outdoor sports events while promoting social goals.
  • X-Live it: Pitsalidis Grigorios, Paparisvas Efstratios, and Kyrou Georgios created a platform for renting sports equipment and coaches based on the Sharing Economy model.
