Course Outline: 2nd semester (Financial management)


PATHWAY: FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
COMPULSORY MODULES – SECOND SEMESTER
(Total ECTS - Second Semester 30 ECTS)

1. Strategic Financial Management (6 ECTS)
The course aims to offer the student a complete framework of the Strategic Financial Management on a theoretical and practical level. The topics covered are a combination of the issues referred to in the Strategic Management and the Strategic Financial Management.  Strategic Management refers to the following sub-topics: Business Action and Business Plan, Strategic Section of Business Plan, Definition of Strategic Management, Elements of Strategic Management: Strategic Analysis (Environment, Resources, etc.), Strategic Selection (Strategic Directions). The analysis of the issues is done with emphasis on their financial dimension and in combination with the topics of the Strategic Financial Management. The Strategic Financial Management refers to the following sub-topics: Conceptual content of the Financial Management Strategy, Management of Value Creation Strategy (SVA, EVA, etc.), Strategic Investment Decision Analysis and Measurement of Performance.

2. Portfolio Theory and Mutual Funds (6 ECTS)
The aim of this module is to give the student a complete background of investment options, how to evaluate and select securities, the construction of optimal portfolios and their management Analyze the market of mutual funds and Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs).

3. Business Strategy and Financial Markets (6 ECTS)
The objective of a business is to maximize the wealth of shareholders. This module examines how this goal can be achieved by taking into account: a) the risk involved in the returns of the investments undertaken by the company and b) the time at which the returns of these investments are realized. Examines how the choice of specific investment programs affects the overall strategy of a company, how capital taxes and the capital structure of a company affect the value of its assets and analyzes the various theories of dividend policy and what is the effect of a particular dividend policy on the expected returns of shares of a company. It analyzes in detail the consequences of a company's capital structure on its overall business strategy and how the motivations of a company's management influence the financial decisions it makes, how asymmetric information between a company's management and its shareholders influences the company's financial decisions. Finally, the concept of hedging is analyzed and what are the risks from which a company should be protected.

 
OPTIONAL MODULES - SECOND SEMESTER
(Postgraduate students choose two (2) courses)

1. Internal Audit (6 ECTS)
The course aims to provide knowledge on issues related to the internal, external and tax audit that a company faces. During the course, practical applications and case studies are presented so that the postgraduate student acquires the necessary equipment in his professional career as an internal auditor, certified auditor, tax auditor or accountant of an economic entity.

2. International Finance (6 ECTS)
The evolution of Multinational Enterprises over the last decade has led to an increase in business structure and transactions. The aim of the module is the analysis of the concepts of International Finance and their connection with the concept of the Multinational Enterprise.

3. Strategic Management of Financial Risks And Financial Derivatives (6 ECTS)
The module explores the characteristics of financial derivatives. In addition, it develops techniques for hedging and managing financial risk through the use of derivatives. The course offers a unified approach to pricing and hedging all financial derivative products as well as their usefulness in risk reduction of an entity.

4. Strategic Negotiations and Management of Financial Crisis (6 ECTS)
The course deals with the analysis of the strategy followed by business executives in a negotiation. In addition, it focuses on the methods of managing financial crises.
