Thesis Preparation and Examination Process
Thesis support takes place in June, October and February in accordance with the Operation Regulation of the Inter-institutional Postgraduate Program "LAW AND INFORMATICS".
During the 2nd Semester (if the student is full-time) or the 4th Semester (if the student is part-time), the postgraduate student should produce a preliminary research outline for the preparation of the thesis and select a supervisor, with the consensus of the professor, in order to undertake the preparation of the thesis during the 3rd Semester (if the student is full-time) or the 5th Semester (if the student is part-time).
The supervisor belongs to the following instructors: a) Teacher and Research Academic Staff of the collaborating Departments or other Departments of HEIs or HMEI, b) Emeritus Professors or retired Faculty members, c) Collaborating professors, d) Adjunct professors, e) Visiting professors or visiting researchers, f) Researchers and special functional scientists of research and technological bodies of article 13 A of Law 4310/2014 (A’258) or other research centers and institutes in Greece or abroad. By a reasoned decision of the Curriculum Committee , the supervision of theses may also be assigned to faculty members who have not undertaken teaching work at the IPPs.
The aforementioned preliminary research outline should specify the topic to be analyzed, the undertaking or organization with which the necessary cooperation will potentially take place, the methodology and the bibliography to be used. The acceptance of the research proposal is based on the criteria of the relevance of the topic to the postgraduate program, with emphasis on its interdisciplinary nature, the contribution to expected benefits and the elements of originality in the approach. At the beginning of the 3rd Semester (for full-time students) or the 5th Semester (for part-time students), the student submits to the secretariat his statement (declaration) for the preparation of a thesis and the research outline, which is also signed by the supervisor or co-supervising professors. The postgraduate student has the option of choosing between Greek or English for writing the thesis (as the thesis’ language).
Depending on the progress of the thesis, the postgraduate student informs the supervisor, who monitors (by keeping a progress diary) whether the objectives and specifications of the research are being met.
Regarding the progress schedule of the thesis, the following should be observed:
-
Within one month after the submission of the thesis statement (declaration), the student must submit a summary syllabus (i.e. a summary table of contents) of his/her thesis to his/her supervisor for discussion- approval. Subsequently, after discussion with the supervisor, in order for the student to propose his/her thesis for support in June or October or February, he/she should submit the final form of the thesis to the supervisor no later than May 10, September 10 or January 10 respectively, so that there is enough time for further corrections following the supervisor's comments. The final text, after taking into account the supervisor's comments, should be completed and submitted for support to the supervisor no later than the end of May, September or January respectively.
Along with submitting the final text of the thesis for support to the supervisor, the student should also submit to the supervisor the result of the plagiarism check, based on the Turnitin platform.
For the examination of the thesis, a committee is appointed by the Curriculum Committee, which is composed of the supervising professor (or co-supervising professors) and two (2) other members (examiners) or one examiner in the case of co-supervision. The examiners or the examiner, as the case may be, are faculty members (Teacher and Research Academic Staff )of the collaborating Departments or provide teaching work at the IPPS. The members of the committee must have the same or a related scientific specialty as the subject of the thesis.
In the event that the student requests a change of supervisor or a change of topic, the EPC decides accordingly, following a recommendation from the Coordinating Committee.
Instructions for writing the Thesis
