Laboratory C.M.R.L.
The Critical Music Research Laboratory facilitates research and teaching needs of a wide range of disciplines which adopt the critical approach as their methodological background in order to investigate into their fields. The term “critical approach” refers to a group of research approaches of the field of social sciences and humanities, all of which give emphasis on a self-guided, fair, and empathetic way of thinking with a reflective attitude towards its own tools. In relation to music research, the demand for a turn towards the critical approach was expressed in various ways during the last decades of the twentieth century through the disciplines of musicology, ethnomusicology, and music pedagogy, redefining the orientation of their research questions, investigated fields, methodologies, and research practices as well as their relation with society, focusing on matters of social responsibility and inclusiveness.
