Στο μάθημα εξετάζονται τα μέσα και οι μηχανισμοί με τους οποίους κράτη και διεθνείς οργανισμοί επιδιώκουν να επικοινωνήσουν τις πολιτικές τους και την 'ταυτότητά' τους σε διαφορετικά «ακροατήρια», είτε στην εσωτερική δημόσια σφαίρα, είτε σε διεθνές επίπεδο. Αναλύεται ιστορικά, ο ρόλος της επικοινωνίας στη δημόσια πολιτική αλλά και στις διεθνείς σχέσεις και επιχειρείται μια εισαγωγή στη 'στρατηγική επικοινωνία', όπως αυτή εξελίσσεται τα τελευταία χρόνια από κυβερνήσεις και διεθνείς οργανισμούς. Στο μάθημα αναλύεται και η προσπάθεια για τη δημιουργία μιας συνεκτικής ελληνικής επικοινωνιακής πολιτικής. Επίσης, αξιολογείται, η επιδίωξη της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης και άλλων οργανισμών για μια αποτελεσματική Επικοινωνιακή Πολιτική. Στο μάθημα επιχειρείται μια συγκριτική ανάλυση της δημόσιας διπλωματίας συγκεκριμένων κυβερνήσεων εστιάζοντας στους μηχανισμούς και τις πολιτικές διαχείρισης της εθνικής τους εικόνας αλλά και ταυτότητας (nation branding), μεταβλητές που συχνά αποτελούν συστατικά στοιχεία της εθνικής στρατηγικής τους.Publications
