SAFETY TECHNICIAN

 

Consultative functions

  • The safety technician provides the University (the Rector and the Institution's Services) with written or verbal recommendations and advice on issues related to the health and safety of employees and the prevention of occupational accidents. The safety technician records the written recommendations in a special book, which is paged and stamped by the labour inspectorate. The University, i.e. its legal representative, the Services as well as individuals (as long as the recommendations made refer to them), are obliged to take notice of the instructions entered in this book by signing in it subsequent to their written notification by the Safety Technician.
  • The safety technician advises on issues pertaining to planning, scheduling, construction and maintenance of facilities, introduction of new production processes, procurement of means and equipment, selection and monitoring of the effectiveness of personal protective equipment, as well as workstation layout and workplace accommodation and the organization of production process in general.
  • The safety technician checks the safety of the facilities and technical means before their operation, as well as the safety of production processes and work methods before their application and supervises the implementation of the health and safety measures of employees and accident prevention, informing accordingly (in writing) the competent department heads or the University administration.

 

Supervision of Working Conditions

  • The safety technician is obliged to regularly inspect workplaces in terms of employee health and safety, to report any omission of health and safety measures to the University, to propose countermeasures and supervise their implementation.
  • To supervise the correct use of personal protective equipment.
  • To investigate the causes of occupational accidents, analyse and evaluate the results of his/her investigations and propose measures to prevent similar accidents.
  • To supervise the conduct of fire drills and alarm systems exercises in order to determine preparedness to deal with accidents.

 

Improvement of Working Conditions

The safety technician is obliged to:

  • Ensure that the employees of the University comply with the rules on the health and safety of workers and to inform and guide them on how to prevent the occupational risk that their work entails.
  • Participate in the preparation and implementation of employee training programs on health and safety issues.
  • Carrying out the work of a security technician does not preclude the assignment of other duties beyond the minimum number of hours of employment as a security technician by the University.
  • The safety technician performs his/her duties in a morally independent manner towards the commissioning authority and its employees. Any disagreement with the University, namely with the institutions of the University, the Rector, the Services etc.,   on issues within his/her competence may not constitute grounds for termination of his/her contract. In any case, the dismissal of the safety technician must be justified.
  • The safety technician is obliged to observe business confidentiality.
  • The safety technician reports directly to the University Administration, i.e. the Rector.
