    1. 2.      LEARNING OUTCOMES

We will first discuss the usefulness of Econometrics. Then, we will focus on the one-variable model and review some basic concepts of statistical inference.  Afterwards, we will analyse the classical two-variable linear regression model and its basic assumptions.  We will also present the estimation method of ordinary least squares (OLS) and the properties of the OLS estimator.  The next topic will be the multivariate regression model. Finally, we will study the use of dummy variables and violations of the model assumptions leading to the problems of multicollinearity, autocorrelation and heteroskedasticity. Time permitting, we  will cover system of equations and the topics of identification and estimation methods.

At the end of the course students will be able to Με την επιτυχή ολοκλήρωση του μαθήματος ο φοιτητής / τρια θα είναι σε θέση να:

    •   Understand the methodology of econometric analysis and its usefulness in applied economics.
    • Understand the concept of regression and its application in economic analysis.
    • Understand the econometric problems arising in a regression model and propose solutions.
    • Apply estimation techniques and tests of statistical hypotheses in a problem at hand.
    • Evaluate the regression results and, if possible, provide economic policy recommendations.
