Spin-offs
The University of Macedonia considers the creation of spin-offs by its faculty members and researchers to be particularly important. For this reason, it essentially supports them, in all the issues they may face regarding the establishment and operation of a spin-off, through the Technology Transfer and Innovation Unit. A spin-off company of the University of Macedonia is considered the capital company founded by academic and/or research staff of the University for the purpose of commercial exploitation of the research results and knowledge produced in the context of their activity at the University. The University itself can participate in the spin-off company (through the Special Account or the University's Exploitation Company), if it so wishes, as a partner and/or third legal and/or natural persons.
The Management Council of the University decides (financial and other conditions) on the establishment of a Spin-off Company - an offshoot of the University of Macedonia. For the decision of the Management Council a recommendation by the Research Committee following a recommendation of the Spin-off Evaluation Committee is considered (see Technology Transfer Regulation Procedures Manual – spin-off establishment procedure/ in greek). A spin-off company can only be established as a capital company, i.e. as an Société Anonyme (SA), a Limited Liability Company (EPE) or a Private Capital Company (IKE).
