* The lecture examines the origins of the Eurozone crisis and evaluates the reforms and policies implemented in response to the crisis. It focuses on the contradictions of the system of centralised monetary policy in a setting of loosely coordinated national fiscal policies, and fragmented banking sectors. Indicative questions addressed in this lecture include: Did economic theories prepare us for the Euro area crisis? Is the sovereign debt crisis of 2010 a result Euro zone's institutional design failures? Were or can these failures be corrected?
