    Στόχος και Πεδίο του Μαθήματος

    Στόχος του μαθήματος είναι να εισαγάγει τους φοιτητές στη θεσμική προοπτική των διεθνών επιχειρήσεων.Η θεσμική θεωρία που βασίζεται κυρίως στο έργο των Douglas North και Scott υποστηρίζει ότι τόσο οι επίσημοι κανόνες, όπως το σύνταγμα μιας χώρας και το νομικό της πλαίσιο, όσο και οι άτυποι περιορισμοί, όπως τα έθιμα της χώρας και οι αυτοεπιβαλλόμενοι κανόνες συμπεριφοράς της, πρέπει να κατανοηθούν στην αξιολόγηση του επιχειρηματικού δυναμικού μιας χώρας.Από την άλλη πλευρά, το επιχειρηματικό δυναμικό συνδέεται στενά με την προσέλκυση της χώρας σε ξένες επιχειρήσεις που εισέρχονται με διάφορους τρόπους εισόδου στην αγορά υποδοχής. Έχει διαπιστωθεί ευρέως ότι ορισμένες χώρες είναι πιο επιτυχημένες από άλλες στην προσέλκυση ξένων επιχειρήσεων, ενώ άλλες χώρες έχουν καλύτερες επιδόσεις όσον αφορά την παραγωγικότητα και την καινοτομία.Με τη σειρά τους, οι ξένες επιχειρήσεις που εισέρχονται σε μια αγορά υποδοχής επηρεάζουν το επιχειρηματικό δυναμικό τους επηρεάζοντας το θεσμικό κατεστημένο.

    Το μάθημα χρησιμοποιεί στοιχεία τόσο της θεσμικής θεωρίας όσο και της διεθνούς επιχειρηματικής θεωρίας για να αναπτύξει μια θεσμική προοπτική της διεθνούς επιχειρηματικής στρατηγικής τόσο σε επίπεδο χώρας όσο και σε επίπεδο εταιρείας.

    Μαθησιακά Αποτελέσματα Μαθήματος

    Οι μαθητές θα αποκτήσουν καλή κατανόηση:

    • Πώς οι θεσμοί επηρεάζουν την οικονομία, την ανάπτυξη και τις επιχειρηματικές δυνατότητες μιας χώρας.

    • Πώς επηρεάζονται οι διεθνείς επενδυτικές στρατηγικές των Πολυεθνικών Επιχειρήσεων (MNEς) από, πρώτον, τη θεσμική προοπτική και, δεύτερον, από τη θεσμική και γενική απόσταση μεταξύ των χωρών καταγωγής και υποδοχής.

    Το μάθημα διερευνά τις ακόλουθες διαστάσεις: Πρώτον, η έννοια της θεσμικής προοπτικής. Τα ιδρύματα μπορούν να κατηγοριοποιηθούν σε τρεις μεγάλες κατηγορίες, δηλαδή, κανονιστικά, ρυθμιστικά και πολιτισμικά-γνωστικά.Οι θεσμικές διαδικασίες πηγάζουν από τη συλλογική εμπειρία, την εκπαίδευση, τους κοινωνικούς κανόνες και τους μιμητικούς κοινωνικούς κανόνες.Η θεσμική προοπτική καλύπτει τις προοπτικές πολιτικής, την ηγεσία, τη διαχείριση, τον επαγγελματισμό τόσο σε επίπεδο χώρας όσο και σε επίπεδο εταιρείας.Επιπλέον, περιλαμβάνει τις πεποιθήσεις, τους κώδικες, τον πολιτισμό και τη γνώση που υποστηρίζουν κανόνες και ρουτίνες. Στο πλαίσιο των διεθνών επιχειρήσεων, η εξερεύνηση θα πρέπει να επεκταθεί σε διεθνείς οργανισμούς που παρέχουν πολιτικές και καθοδήγηση για τη θεσμική ανάπτυξη.

    Δεύτερον, όσον αφορά τη διεθνή επιχειρηματική στρατηγική, οι εταιρείες περιλαμβάνουν τη θεσμική προοπτική για να βοηθήσουν την ικανότητά τους να αποκτήσουν γνώση και να κατανοήσουν το θεσμικό δυναμικό μιας χώρας, ειδικά χρησιμοποιώντας το πλαίσιο της θεσμικής απόστασης μεταξύ της χώρας καταγωγής και της χώρας υποδοχής, την πιθανή επιρροή της στο επιχειρηματικό δυναμικό και απόδοση, και να σχεδιάσουν μεθόδους προσαρμογής τους στο περιβάλλον υποδοχής, και το πιο σημαντικό να διερευνήσουν την αλληλεπίδρασή τους με τις υπάρχουσες θεσμικές δομές με στόχο την αλλαγή τους με δυναμικό τρόπο.

    Αυτό το μέρος του μαθήματος περιλαμβάνει τη διερεύνηση του τρόπου με τον οποίο η ανάλυση διεθνούς επιχειρηματικής στρατηγικής συνυφαίνεται με τη θεσμική και την προοπτική της απόστασης (distance) χρησιμοποιώντας θεωρίες και μοντέλα και από τους δύο κλάδους.

    Το μάθημα θα αξιολογηθεί με, πρώτον, ένα εκτενές δοκίμιο γραμμένο κατά τη διάρκεια του μαθήματος, δεύτερο, με την παρουσίαση του δοκιμίου. Η συμβολή κάθε μεθόδου αξιολόγησης έχει ως εξής:

    Το δοκίμιο αντιπροσωπεύει το 70 τοις εκατό του συνολικού βαθμού.

    Η παρουσίαση του δοκιμίου θα αντιπροσώπευει το 30 τοις εκατό του συνολικού βαθμού.

    Course Scope and Aim

    International or Global development is a broad concept based on the idea that societies and countries have differing levels of economic or human development on an international scale.  Economic development may be approached as the intertemporal evolution towards more complex institutions that deal with the uncertainties–imperfections arising from more complicated forms of exchange and involving both market and non–market actors.  The notion of development forms the basis for international classifications such as developed, developing country and least developed countries, and emphasizes the improvement of the quality of life and providing opportunities of success.  International Development is a field dedicated to improving the living conditions of the world’s population.  It focuses on long term solutions to problems such as poverty, poor health care and sanitation, human rights violations and inequalities.  These solutions often involve humanitarian organizations or institutions most of which were set up after the Second World War, the so-called Bretton Woods Institutions such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) with a focus on economic growth, alleviating poverty, and improving living conditions in previously colonized countries.

    The course aims students to understand all aspects of international development.

    • Current aid models, Sustainable Development Goals and the relative debates.

    • Ø The factors that influence global policy development and institutions that oversee such issues as trade, investment and aid and the economic implications of the rapid economic progress in China, India and Brazil.

    (3) SYLLABUS

    Course Syllabus

    The course syllabus builds along:

    • Theories of development, such as: modernization theory, dependency theory, world system theory, neoliberalism, good governance, capacity approach, and post development theory.  
    • The evolution of international development practices from structural adjustment programs to poverty reduction and to sustainable development.

    While structural adjustment programs encouraged poor countries to undergo social and economic transformations creating industrialization and intentional industrial policy, poverty reduction consists of direct budget support for social welfare programs creating macroeconomic stability that leads to economic growth.  Poverty is the condition of lacking access to fundamental human needs such as food, shelter, and safe drinking water with some complementing this definition with social and political arrangements manifested in a lack of dignity.

    Sustainable development projects seek not only to implement solutions to existing problems but to assist developing countries to create the necessary capacity needed to provide long term sustainable solutions to their problems. A truly sustainable development project is one which will be able to carry on indefinitely with no further international involvement or support, whether it be financial or otherwise.  International development projects may consist of a single, transformative project to address a specific problem or a series of projects targeted at several aspects of society. Promoted projects are ones which involve problem solving that reflects the unique culture, politics, geography, and economy of a region. More recently, the focus in this field has been projects that aim towards empowering women, building local economies, and caring for the environment

    In context of human development, it usually encompasses foreign aid, governance, healthcare, education, poverty reduction, gender equality, disaster preparedness, infrastructure, economics, human rights, environment and issues associated with these.

    The international community has codified development aims in, for instance, the Millennium Development Goals (2000 to 2015) and the Sustainable Development Goals (2015 to 2030)

    • Issues addressed by International Development, such as: International Economic Inequality, Dignity, Participation, Appropriateness, Sustainability, Capacity Building, Inefficiencies of Institutions, Rights based Approach.
    • International development stakeholders, such as Supranational Institutions, non-governmental and international non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, private sector actors, etc.
    • The passing from international to global development.  The latter considers development in relation to the whole world and as part of a ‘global development paradigm’.It signals a departure from the dominant orientation of 20th-century international development towards ‘poor countries’ and ‘poor people’ and towards a world where many of the causes of development cannot be segmented along North–South or national boundaries but rather in a ‘one-world’ approach, even in some cases beyond the Global North and Global South approach.

    Course Assessment

    The course would be assessed by, first, a long essay written during the course, second, a final exam paper, and third, the presentation of the essay. The contribution of each assessment method is as it follows:

    The essay would account for 40 per cent of the overall grade.

    The presentation of the essay would account for 20 per cent of the overall grade.

    Σκοπός και Στόχοι

    Ο σκοπός του μαθήματος είναι να αναλύσει το φαινόμενο της διεθνοποίησης του κεφαλαίου, των επιχειρήσεων και γενικά της επιχειρηματικής δράσης.

    Εκείνο που χαρακτηρίζει το καπιταλιστικό σύστημα είναι η διεθνοποίηση των οικονομικών σχέσεων μέσω του διεθνούς εμπορίου, της διασυνοριακής κίνησης παραγωγικών συντελεστών, όπως του κεφαλαίου και της εργασίας, και τέλος της διεθνοποίησης των επιχειρήσεων και της παραγωγής, και τελικά η συγκρότηση ενός διεθνούς οικονομικού συστήματος.  Η  διεθνοποίηση της παραγωγής περιλαμβάνει μορφές όπως το διασυνοριακό εμπόριο, οι διεθνείς επενδύσεις χαρτοφυλακίου και οι Άμεσες Ξένες Επενδύσεις, η διεθνής μεταφορά τεχνολογίας και τεχνογνωσίας, και γενικά παραγωγικών εισροών.

    Οι στόχοι του μαθήματος είναι:

    • Η ερμηνεία της τάσης του καπιταλιστικού συστήματος να υπερβαίνει τα σύνορα τοπικά, εθνικά ή περιφερειακά, και να συγκροτεί ένα διεθνές οικονομικό σύστημα, το οποίο μετασχηματίζεται ανάλογα με το μίγμα των διεθνών οικονομικών αλλά και πολιτικών σχέσεων.
    • Να αναλύσει την διεθνοποίηση της επιχείρησης και των μορφών μέσω των οποίων η επιχείρηση διεθνοποιείται.
    • Πώς η επιχείρηση επιλέγει μεταξύ των διαφορετικών και εναλλακτικών μορφών διεθνοποίησης.
    • Πώς συνδέεται η διεθνοποίηση των οικονομικών σχέσεων με την οικονομική ανάπτυξη εθνική και διεθνή.

    Παγκοσμιοποίηση.  Ο σχηματισμός και ο μετασχηματισμός του Διεθνούς Οικονομικού Συστήματος.

    Τρόποι Εξέτασης

    Το μάθημα εξετάζεται με μία ενδιάμεση εξέταση που συμβάλλει κατά 40 τοις εκατό στο συνολικό βαθμό του μαθήματος, την τελική εξέταση που συμβάλλει με ένα άλλο 40 τοις εκατό, και με την παρουσία και συμμετοχή στις διαλέξεις με συμβολή το υπόλοιπο 40 τοις εκατό.
